Data is building across the nation that shows the negative impact of implementing punitive only discipline (suspension and expulsion) in early childhood education, especially for children of color. In Colorado, Padres & Jóvenes Unidos has partnered with the Colorado Children's Campaign, the office of Representative Lontine, the Black Child Development Institute of Denver, Clayton Early Learning, Hope Center, and the Institute for Racial Equity & Excellence (IREE) to draft and propose a bill to ban preschool suspensions and expulsions after a series of stakeholder meetings held in the fall of 2016.
