American Public Media Reports interviews Padres & Jóvenes Unidos founders and leaders in a national investigation on school discipline reform.
Since 2003 Padres & Jóvenes has analyzed and investigated the impact of zero-tolerance school discipline policies on youth of color. Upon finding that students of color were being disciplined more often and harsher than their White peers, PJU members organized to push for school discipline reform and continues to hold the district accountable to the agreed upon changes. PJU is also the only community organization involved in the Denver School-Based Restorative Practices Partnership and is motivated to encourage districts across the state to implement restorative practices.
