After months of struggle, parents, students and community members packed the DATA building on Tuesday, March, 31st to celebrate their victory in ensuring Caesar Chavez Academy's place in Northwest Denver in the fall of 2009.
The school will offer an exceptional educational alternative for K-8 students in our community, particularly those losing their school, as the Denver Academy of Arts and Technology closes at the end of the school year. Cesar Chavez Academy will open its doors for the first time in Denver in the former DATA building.
"During the process of selecting a school for my kids to go to I did a lot of research, looking at the area schools and visiting them in person.... and came to the conclusion that we needed to do better for our kids. We needed to bring better options for our community to ensure that our children will grow up with high standards and high expectations," said DATA parent and Padres leader, Adam Quintana during Tuesday's meeting.
During the meeting, Dr. Lawrence Hernandez told parents about his vision and unique practices that have been so effective for students at the CCA in Pueblo, which regularly achieves CSAP scores in the 70-80% range.
"We're very excited to be able to bring the opportunity for an excellent education to the students of Denver. We believe that it is every child's right to have the opportunity to get the highest level of education regardless of ethnicity or income level," Dr. Hernandez said.
Cesar Chavez Academy is still accepting applications for enrollment for the 2009-2010 school year. If you are interested in applying to enroll your student(s) visit http://www.cca-pueblo.org/main/index.php/enrollment or call (720) 317-9396 to apply by phone.
