April 12, 2010
Today, Senator Michael Johnston introduced his "Ensuring Quality Instruction through Educator Effectiveness" bill, or EQuITEE (SB 10-191). This bill would:
- Create an evaluation system for principals and teachers based largely on student academic growth;
- Identify the most effective educators, paying them more and helping them share their work across the state;
- Ensure teachers earn tenure or due process rights “based on real demonstrated performance;” and
- Implement "hiring by mutual consent" so that principals hire the teachers they want and teachers can work at the schools they choose.
