The Freedom to Learn Campaign

The Freedom to Learn Campaign is the umbrella that encompasses all of our work for educational justice. The Padres & Jovenes Unidos Freedom to Learn Campaign is based on the idea that education is a RIGHT, not a privilege. We believe that ALL students, regardless of race, income, or immigration status, deserve equal access to high-quality public schools that prepares them for college and equal access to higher education. Through youth and parent led organizing campaigns, the Freedom to Learn directly addresses the root causes of institutional racism and poverty that manifest themselves as low expectations and lack of investment in the education of low-income students of color. Our call for educational reform has resulted in real movement towards district and state wide school reform efforts. Our major wins within Denver Public Schools include the district's adoption of new graduation requirements that better prepare ALL students for college, adoption of new discipline policies and the introduction of the Restorative Justice program, all designed to keep students in school and learning to ensure their success beyond high school.
